Choosing a barefoot boot

Think about the weather first. For British winters a waterproof membrane and a grippy sole make a big difference. For dry cold, a wool lining keeps you warm without the bulk.

  • Waterproof membrane or treated leather for wet days.
  • Wool or fleece lining for cold weather, with room for a thicker sock.
  • A sole with enough grip for ice, mud or wet leaves.

Work and safety boots

If you need protective toe caps, I have written about my own move from pointy safety boots to foot-shaped ones, with the brands that make them.
